Recap and New Years Beatings!

Well haven't updated in a while so let me recap a few things:

1. Played a whole 2 games of WHFB over the course of last year. The first game was a team game and was more learning. Dave (Beastmen) & Josh (Dwarves) against Ryan (Ogres) and myself (WOC). We played 1500k per army and played thru 4 turns in under 4 hours. I have to say I am still really new to the 8th ed rules (I quit playing during 2nd/3rd/4th). They are quite easy to learn and having a few people who know what they are doing makes the games go alot faster.

(As a side note, Its harder to play 40k with anyone these days because most people are not willing to be patient and help you with rules. Instead the couple of times I have played out side my circle of friends its been more of a "hey its that guy that doesn't know the rules and guess I will just over kill him".)

The second game was just a pickup between Dave and I to test and play a little more. Dave took some units he hadn't played with before and I tweaked the army list ryan made for me. I did find out that 10 knights of chaos is a little over kill. Even though they tear thru stuff it almost felt dirty and borderline offensive to take that many, and with the mark of khorne no less!

2. I kinda caught the bug and found myself on Forgeworld's website and accidently ordered some stuff. (some 40k contemptor arms, a 10 man squad of chaos dwarves with fireglaives and command. I also found out that even though an ebay auction may say forgeworld...when said order shows up from Hong Kong its just recasts. (the 3 plague ogres I got for 39.99 was still a good deal).

3. Put together almost everything I have. I still have 10 war hounds on sprue and a manticore to put together. I really have no use for 20 war hounds with my current build but they make great points fillers and easy chaff to units. The manticore I just cant use at this time. I don't know if its the model or what but I can't get excited about putting it together and using it. The Lord and Sorcerror model that come with it are great! Its just the manticore looks so sub par. I did take the steps to magnitize the Lords weapons so I could swap them out for each style. I learned the hard way somepeople perfer the WYSIYG (what you see is what you get) style and should make it easier for tourniments coming up.

4. Ordered some movement trays from Shogun! I love these things and have to say for the few dollars they cost they have been great. I took the cheap way and bought circle magnets from walmart (they were 18 of them for 1.98 and had sticky backs). The magnets fit underneath the bases and do raise the figs up a millimeter or so but work and are alot let expensive that doing some of the other options I had.

So thats kinda a review up to the new year.

Now for 2012 lets reflect on what I should be doing:

1. Playing more games for both 40k and WHFB. I hope to get in at least 2 games a month I would prefer to have 2 of each but will be happy to just play alittle bit more.

2. Paint....But Dan your models looks so good in the 14 shades of grey you have used. So lets just say with the baby on the way and me actually being more strapped to the house I need to get stuff painted and looking decent. Its pretty sad to go play with your friends and all there stuff looks good and yours has a plastic look and generious wash of super glue! (I did find a great motivater was listening to some pod casts like joes (waaagh cast) and David and Chris (Garagehammer)).

3. Attend 2 tournaments 40k or WHFB. I guess the only way to actually start getting motivated to paint is to go to a tournment and not score any points for painted models. Nothing says last place like winning 1 game and being at a negative score because your guy dudes look the same off the sprue as they did on.

4. Kick Joe in the butt to put together a blood in the badlands campaing. Yes Joe if you read this I will be kicking you soon!

5. Stop buying crap I don't need! I kinda bought some Chaos dwarves...I want a 2000 point chaos dwarf army but thus I would spend a ton of money for this plus the investment of a 100.00 book for an army list is alittle above my means right now.

6. Be nicer...We will just leave that one alone.

Now I will leave you with a few photos of forgeworld/knock off forgeworld goodness!

Happy batteling!
